By popular demand, Shinteki is excited to present the SF Scramble, a
short, on-foot version of some of the clues from Decathlon 6. If you
missed the Decathlon on May 22 & 29, get a taste of the fun by
experiencing the SF Scramble on July 17 in downtown San
Francisco. You'll discover new places and face fascinating (but not
too fiendish!) mental and physical challenges as you solve your way to
the finish line. Shinteki SF Scramble will be an open event
suitable for rookies and recreational puzzle enthusiasts alike, so get
your team together and get ready for an adventure!
PLAY AT YOUR OWN PACE
The time frame for Shinteki SF Scramble will be 1:00 pm to
about 5:00 pm, or whenever you finish the puzzles or are ready to call
it a day. The route will be entirely contained within San Francisco's
downtown. Team check-in will begin at 12:30 pm on the day of the
event. After spending the afternoon in the field, teams will head to
the final location for a social gathering and no-host happy
hour. There is no scoring, and hints will be available for teams who
want them, so the goal is just to enjoy the puzzles and locations.
DETAILS
Shinteki SF Scramble will feature waves of challenges that can
be solved in almost any order. Teams of 2 to 4 players must stay
together throughout the race and walk to each location (no taxis,
bikes, splitting up, etc.) Answer verification and hints will be
available at several locations along the course, with no penalty for
taking hints. There is no enforced time limit on the event, but most
teams will probably finish the challenges in 3 to 5 hours. Since the
challenges were a part of Decathlon 6, there may be spoilers in event
reviews on the web. Please don't seek these out, as they may detract
from your overall experience! Challenges are best solved (and more
fun) when you have an open mind and no prior knowledge of the event.
SIGN-UPS & REQUIREMENTS
Shinteki SF Scramble will accept teams of 2 to 4 people, and
the price is $25 per team regardless of team size. Players under age
18 must play with a parent or guardian. The event will be held one
time on July 17, 2010. In order to participate, none of the
participants may have played in Decathlon 6. While you won't need much
in the way of gear, we recommend bringing a cell phone, pencils,
comfortable shoes, water and a snack. While not required, teams may
find clipboards and mobile web access useful. All participants should
be prepared to walk several miles during the event. In addition, you
will be required to wear a simple team uniform so that we will be able
to identify you as a team in the field.
